Operational Details:

  • The Seven Stars in Kyushu package is 4 days / 3 nights.
    • The first day and night (day 3 of the journey) is spent on the train.
    • The second morning of the package (day 4 of the journey) is spent on the train, in the afternoon guests disembark the train and then take a public ferry across a bay to the Unzen region, where they stay at a ryokan.
    • The third day of the package (day 5 of the journey) guests rejoin the train and stay overnight on the train again.
    • The fourth day of the package (day 6 of the journey) guests spend the day on the train, but disembark in the evening in Fukuoka and stay overnight at the Ritz Carlton.
  • There are three compartment categories for the train: Suite, DLX Suite B and DLX Suite A.
  • At Ryotei Hanzuiryo, guests in Suites on the train are allocated Sukiya style Rooms. Some of the Suites have Japanese style bedding, while some have western twin beds (no kings). Guests in DLX Suites A and B are allocated the two specialty suites. These both have western twin beds (no kings
  • As space for luggage on trains in Japan is limited, baggage is transported by separate baggage vehicle from hotel in Fukuoka to hotel in Kyoto. Bags arrive the same evening.

Setting Expectations:

  • Program is recommended for travelers looking for a more culturally immersive experience beyond the standard Tokyo–Mt. Fuji–Kyoto–Nara itinerary. This journey does NOT include Tokyo or Hakone.
  • This journey currently consists of 1 departure, in mid-September. Guests will NOT see cherry blossoms or fall foliage.
  • This program includes ACTIVE elements such as climbing steps without railings and walking long distances. Guests need to be in good health.
  • This program visits temples and religious sites that require the removal of shoes to enter.
