In Conversation With: Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place

Ori Kafri

There are visionaries in luxury hospitality whose work transcends beautiful design and impeccable service, leaders who create worlds so intimate, so thoughtfully composed, that guests feel less like visitors and more like cherished friends welcomed home. Ori Kafri, CEO and Co-Founder of J.K. Place, is unmistakably one of them.

Raised in Florence among the art, architecture, and craftsmanship that define the city’s soul, Kafri grew up with an innate sensitivity to beauty and human connection. That foundation, paired with the guiding influence of his father, Jonathan Kafri, the “JK” behind the brand, shaped a hospitality philosophy rooted in warmth, elegance, and emotional resonance. Since opening the first J.K. Place two decades ago, Kafri has cultivated a collection of intimate, design-forward properties that feel both deeply personal and universally admired.

Today, he continues to lead the brand with the same meticulous care and artistic vision that first set it apart: a commitment to spaces that are thoughtfully curated, quietly luxurious, and always guided by the question, How will this make our guests feel? With new projects on the horizon—from Rome to Milan to Capri—Kafri is shaping the next chapter of a brand celebrated for its soul as much as its sophistication.

A heartfelt thank you to Ori for sharing his insights, inspirations, and the philosophy behind one of Europe’s most beloved boutique hotel collections.

Below, you’ll find the full, unedited conversation—part of In Conversation With, a series from Suite Sojourn spotlighting the hoteliers, innovators, and creative minds redefining the future of luxury travel. Whether you’re dreaming of your next Italian escape or simply curious about the magic behind J.K. Place’s enduring allure, I hope his story offers a window into the elegance, intimacy, and heart at the core of this remarkable brand.

Suite Sojourn: Ori, you’ve built a beloved brand with a loyal global following. Can you share a bit about your early background and what led you to hospitality?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: I was fortunate to grow up in Florence, a city that breathes art, design, and culture. From a young age, I was surrounded by beauty- whether it was the architecture, the art in the Uffizi, or the craftsmanship of local artisans. This environment naturally nurtured a love for creating beautiful experiences. My journey into hospitality began with a desire to combine that passion for aesthetics with the warmth of human interaction. I wanted to craft spaces where people could feel both comforted and inspired. It was my father, Jonathan Kafri – the “JK” in J.K. Place – who guided me into this world. His vision and dedication showed me how hospitality could be a way to bring people together, to create moments of connection and joy.

Suite Sojourn: What inspired the original concept behind J.K. Place, and what vision did you hope to bring to life when you launched it and how has it evolved to what it is today?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: The original concept for J.K. Place was to create intimate, design-focused hotels that felt like a home away from home, but with a touch of luxury. I wanted every guest to feel as though they were stepping into a space that was personal, yet elegant and refined. The idea was to foster relationships, not just between the staff and guests, but also between the guests and the destination itself. Over the years, the brand has evolved, embracing new destinations and local cultures, but the core philosophy has remained the same: to create spaces that are warm, inviting, and memorable.

Suite Sojourn: In your role today as CEO, what does your day-to-day involve, and what aspects of the business are you most passionate about?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: My day-to-day life as CEO involves overseeing operations, design, and brand strategy, but what truly drives me is the guest experience. Every decision I make, whether it’s about the layout of a suite, the menu at the restaurant, or a new staff training initiative, is filtered through the lens of “How will this make our guests feel?” I’m passionate about ensuring that every detail contributes to a sense of comfort, beauty, and connection. At the end of the day, hospitality is about people, and I’m deeply committed to creating experiences that leave a lasting impression.

Suite Sojourn: How do you see J.K. Place evolving over the next two to three years, and what role do you personally hope to play in driving that change?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: Looking ahead, I see J.K. Place continuing to grow thoughtfully and intentionally. We’re focused on balancing expansion with deepening our identity in each city we enter. It’s crucial for me to remain intimately involved in every aspect: from design and concept development to selecting the teams that bring our vision to life. Consistency and coherence are key as we grow. Over the next few years, we have some exciting projects in the works: Casa JK in Rome, opening at the end of 2025, which will feature 15 residences with full hotel services as part of Leading Hotels of the World; J.K. Place Milan, opening in Summer 2026 with 40 rooms on Via Borgospesso; and 9 new suites in Capri, opening in the 2027 season next to our existing hotel. Each of these projects reflects our commitment to blending local culture with timeless elegance.

Suite Sojourn: With the global travel landscape shifting, where do you believe the luxury traveler is headed next? How are their expectations changing?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: The luxury travel landscape is evolving, and today’s travelers are seeking experiences that are personal, immersive, and authentic. They want to connect with the places they visit on a deeper level, and they value spaces that tell a story. At J.K. Place, we’ve always focused on creating environments that are both beautiful and meaningful. It’s about offering guests more than just a place to stay; it’s about creating moments that resonate with them long after they’ve left.

Suite Sojourn: What role does North America—and the broader Americas—play in the future growth of the J.K. Place brand and its growth strategy?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: North and South America represent exciting opportunities for us. The market here is curious, sophisticated, and receptive to the kind of intimate, design-driven hotels we create. Expanding in this region allows us to introduce J.K. Place to new audiences while staying true to our philosophy of quality over quantity. It’s about finding the right locations where our vision can thrive and where we can create spaces that feel both local and universal.

Suite Sojourn: J.K. Place has always stood out for its sophisticated design and intimate atmosphere. How important is design in building loyalty and emotional connection with your guests?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: Design is at the heart of everything we do. It’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about shaping the emotional journey of every guest. A well-considered space tells a story, evokes memories, and creates loyalty. When guests feel that a hotel has been thoughtfully curated, they connect with it on a deeper level. I’m incredibly grateful to Michele Bonan for his unique contribution in designing our beautiful homes. His ability to blend elegance with warmth has been instrumental in defining the J.K. Place identity.

Suite Sojourn: What do you consider to be the biggest challenge when it comes to continuously elevating the guest experience?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: The greatest challenge in luxury hospitality is anticipation. Guests’ expectations are constantly evolving, and we need to stay ahead of their desires. It’s about understanding what they want, often before they even articulate it, and delivering it in a way that feels seamless and effortless. This requires a deep understanding of our guests, a commitment to continuous improvement, and a team that’s attuned to the subtleties of service.

Suite Sojourn: J.K. Place Paris opened to much acclaim not too long ago. What makes this property unique within your portfolio, and what can guests expect from the Parisian interpretation of your brand?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: Paris is a city that embodies elegance, history, and art, and our hotel reflects that. At J.K. Place Paris, guests can expect a classic Parisian atmosphere intertwined with the intimacy, warmth, and design sensibility that define J.K. Place. It’s our interpretation of Paris, filtered through our identity. Every detail, from the furnishings to the service, has been carefully considered to create an experience that feels both timeless and personal.

Suite Sojourn: As technology continues to evolve, how do you see it shaping the future of luxury travel—both in terms of guest expectations and operations?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: Technology plays an important role in modern hospitality, but it should always enhance the experience, not replace human connection. From personalized boo

Suite Sojourn: If you had to describe the soul or identity of J.K. Place in just a few words, what would they be?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: If I had to describe the soul of J.K. Place, I’d say it’s intimate, sophisticated, and heartfelt. Every element is carefully considered, yet always warm and approachable. It’s about creating spaces that feel like a home, but with a level of elegance and attention to detail that elevates the experience.

Suite Sojourn: Is there a “magic ingredient” you believe makes your service model so beloved by guests across the world?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: The magic ingredient is our people. Every member of our team is chosen not only for their skills but for their empathy and intuition. It’s that human touch that turns an excellent stay into a memorable one. We believe that true hospitality comes from the heart, and our team embodies that philosophy in every interaction.

Suite Sojourn: What’s your dream hospitality project—something you haven’t done yet but would love to explore one day?

Imagine a place where guests can escape completely, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, yet still feel a sense of connection and warmth. It would be a sanctuary for contemplation and inspiration, blending the best of nature and design.

Suite Sojourn: Are there any upcoming openings or expansion plans you’re able to share with our readers?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: We’re always exploring new possibilities, but we approach expansion with careful consideration. Our focus is on finding locations where our philosophy can truly thrive. While I can’t share specifics beyond what I’ve already mentioned, I’m excited about the projects we have in the pipeline. Each one represents an opportunity to bring the J.K. Place experience to new destinations while staying true to our core values.

Suite Sojourn: I had a client tell me J.K. Place Capri was the most memorable hotel stay of their life. What do you think makes that property so universally adored?

Ori Kafri, CEO of J.K. Place: Capri is a magical place: it’s a blend of breathtaking views, intimate spaces, and “Dolce Vita” service. The island itself inspires our design and guest experience.
