In Conversation With: Riccardo Ortogni, General Manager at J.K. Place Paris

Some hotels welcome you; J.K. Place Paris embraces you. Blending Italian warmth with Parisian elegance, it is a property where hospitality feels effortless, personal, and quietly refined. At the heart of this experience is Riccardo Ortogni, General Manager of J.K. Place Paris, whose gracious leadership and deep love for the city shape the very soul of the hotel.

Raised in Italy’s Franciacorta region, Ortogni discovered his passion for hospitality early on, drawn to the artistry, charm, and culture that surrounded him. Now, after seven years with the J.K. family, he continues to cultivate a space that feels both timeless and authentically Parisian — inviting guests to wander the Left Bank, linger in intimate cafés, and feel genuinely at home.

A heartfelt thank you to Riccardo for sharing his insights, inspirations, and the philosophy behind one of Europe’s most beloved boutique hotel collections.

Below, you’ll find the full, unedited conversation — part of In Conversation With, a series from Suite Sojourn spotlighting the hoteliers, innovators, and creative minds redefining the future of luxury travel. Whether you’re dreaming of your next Parisian escape or simply curious about the Italian warmth, neighborhood charm, and thoughtful design that define J.K. Place Paris, I hope Riccardo’s story offers a window into the elegance, authenticity, and heartfelt hospitality at the core of this remarkable hotel.

Suite Sojourn: Let’s start with your story. What first drew you into the world of hospitality? Did your upbringing in any way shape your passion for the industry?

Riccardo Ortogni, General Manager at J.K. Place Paris: I had the luck to grow up in a small town in the Franciacorta area, in the north of Italy, where we have one of the most charming and renowned hotels, L’Albereta. Back then, the hotel boasted the famous Gualtiero Marchesi restaurant and a beautiful hotel. It was easy to be tempted and start working in the hospitality world.

Suite Sojourn: Riccardo, how long have you been with the J.K. Group? In your opinion, what makes J.K. Paris such a special project to lead? How would you describe J.K. Paris?

Riccardo Ortogni, General Manager at J.K. Place Paris: I have been working for J.K. Place Paris for about 7 years now — time really flies. When I had the opportunity to lead the project, together with a wonderful team, I could not resist and I accepted, and it has been an amazing ride so far. When I am asked to describe the J.K., I always use three words: timeless, elegant, and sophisticated.

Suite Sojourn: What, in your view, makes hospitality a rewarding pursuit in today’s world — especially in a city like Paris?

Riccardo Ortogni, General Manager at J.K. Place Paris: Being able to live and work in Paris is already a gift that I enjoy every day. Having the possibility to work with my incredible team, in the most competitive city in the world when it comes to luxury hospitality, is a huge daily driver. I love it! And not to mention the fact that every day we meet new guests and we do what we love — make them happy.

Suite Sojourn: How would you describe J.K. Place Paris and the neighborhood? What do you love most about the neighborhood — and how do you help guests experience it authentically?

Riccardo Ortogni, General Manager at J.K. Place Paris: The neighborhood is key for every J.K. project. In this case, in Paris, we wanted to be in the Rive Gauche as we believe that is the most authentic part of the city. We always encourage our guests to explore the neighborhood on foot and get lost in the tiny streets of Saint-Germain, spend the afternoon at the Musée Rodin or Les Invalides, or just simply stop for a coffee in a local tiny café, etc.

Suite Sojourn: J.K. Paris blends Italian warmth with Parisian elegance. How do you preserve the brand’s DNA while allowing the property to feel distinctly Parisian?

Riccardo Ortogni, General Manager at J.K. Place Paris: At J.K. Paris, we want to stay true to the brand’s values while embracing the essence of Paris. The J.K. spirit is defined by Italian warmth, genuine hospitality, and a sense of home where each team member plays an important role.

Here in Paris, we’ve been inspired by the “flea market.” It is a place I love and I visit once a month to discover new pieces of art or antiques. It is a magic world where you can meet great designers, architects, or just art aficionados. It is an experience I recommend to our guests and they generally love it… and they buy something!

Suite Sojourn: J.K. properties are known for their deeply personal service. How do you and your team create an atmosphere that feels more like a home than a hotel?

Riccardo Ortogni, General Manager at J.K. Place Paris: Firstly I need to say that our designer and architect Michele Bonana, and his team, did a wonderful job creating a hotel that feels immediately warm like a home. The rest is done on a daily basis by our team, they do an exceptional job every single day, with an incredible passion and with the desire to please and go beyond our guests’ expectations.

Suite Sojourn: Design is clearly central to the J.K. experience. Can you tell us about one detail at J.K. Paris—perhaps from Michele Bönan’s work—that continues to surprise or delight guests?

Riccardo Ortogni, General Manager at J.K. Place Paris: What always surprises me is how guests instantly connect with the warmth and timeless atmosphere that Michele Bönan (and its team) created, it is unique. There’s something about the balance of elegance and comfort: the textures, the light, the art, that makes people feel immediately at home. They just fall in love with it.

Suite Sojourn: After all the guests have checked out and the music’s faded for the night, how do you personally know a day at J.K. Place Paris a success? What are some of the biggest compliments you have received from guests? What do you hope the guests take with them, beyond the beautiful photos and souvenirs?

Riccardo Ortogni, General Manager at J.K. Place Paris: The best feeling is when I see our guests leaving happy, feeling genuinely cared for. The compliments I treasure the most are the ones about our team. When a guest mentions how someone made their stay special, it really makes me proud.

Our “people” are at the heart of everything we do. They bring warmth, personality, and soul to the J.K. experience, and we believe in investing in them because they’re the present and the future of the brand.

Suite Sojourn: Looking ahead, what excites you most—whether it’s within the J.K. family or in your personal journey as a hotelier in Paris?

Riccardo Ortogni, General Manager at J.K. Place Paris: I would like to continue growing both personally and professionally within J.K., as I believe it is a truly unique and special brand. What excites me most, however, are the projects we are currently exploring to further expand the portfolio, they represent an incredible opportunity to contribute to the brand’s future and evolution.

Suite Sojourn: What are some of your favorite and perhaps hidden gems in Paris that you like to visit? Be it for a cup of coffee or an intimate dinner with your family.

Riccardo Ortogni, General Manager at J.K. Place Paris: I have many, but I’ll give you just a few 🙂 My favorite Parisian restaurant is Le Voltaire, by far. I feel they share a similar mindset to J.K.; I love the ambience, the team, and of course, the food. I also love walking around the city and stopping at night to admire Les Invalides, it’s such a beautiful sight. And on Sundays, nothing beats a peaceful walk through the Jardin du Luxembourg.
