No matter how luxurious your suite at the world’s finest hotels, it can’t promise a new view every morning—unless it’s on the ocean. The tides are changing as luxury hotels are now venturing into the cruise industry, merging the grandeur of luxury accommodations with the allure of superyachts. These ships feature:
Renowned brands like Ritz-Carlton, Aman, Four Seasons, and Orient Express have either launched or are planning to introduce their own superyacht-style cruises. The motivation behind this trend is clear: hotels aim to offer their guests the chance to experience their luxury both on land and at sea. It’s also a strategic move to attract younger generations to cruising, addressing the traditional age range of 55 to 65. Younger demographics have often been hesitant to cruise due to lengthy itineraries and offerings that don’t appeal to them.
Explora Journeys targets individuals aged 35 and up with a relaxed luxury approach by setting itself apart by breaking away from traditional cruise stereotypes. Passengers stay in suites instead of cabins, and instead of formal events, they can enjoy an onboard whisky bar, cigar lounge, or performances by comedians and Broadway stars. A Rolex boutique—the first at sea—also offers exclusive shopping. This blend of exclusivity and social opportunities caters to today’s high-end travelers.
Other brands are also entering the luxury cruise market. Four Seasons Yachts will launch its first vessel in 2026, emphasizing personalized service with a 1:1 staff-to-passenger ratio. Ritz-Carlton launched its first yacht, Evrima, in 2022, with a second yacht, Ilma, starting Mediterranean voyages this summer.
These brands aim to distance themselves from traditional cruise stereotypes, referring to their offerings as “journeys” or “voyages” instead. Their destinations are also unique, with Four Seasons Yachts visiting places like Fréjus, France, and Gozo, Malta, and Explora offering transoceanic voyages for more adventurous travelers.
